Bus-Organisation, die verschiedene Routen in diversen Ländern anbieten. Im Fall Neuseelands:

It’s a bus organisation, which offers different routes through various countries. In NZ it is:

• Nordinsel ohne Ostküste
• Nordinsel mit Ostküste
• Südinsel
• Nord+Südinsel ohne Ostküste
• Nord+Südinsel mit Ostküste (diesen Pass hab ich, ca 800 Euro, siehe Bild)

• north island – eastern coast way
• north island + eastern coast way
• south island
• north + south island – eastern coast way
• north + south island + easterny coast way (I’ve got this one, around 800 €)

Alle Busse beginnen in Auckland, außer natürlich bei den Routen der Südinsel 😉
Es fährt immer ein Bus die komplette Strecke und dann beginnt alle 2 Tage quasi ein neuer Bus. Dieser fährt dann die Strecke einmal komplett durch, vergleichbar mit einem Linienbus in der Hinsicht, und hört wieder in Auckland auf.
Man muss zwar immer auf der Route bleiben, aber man kann aus- und einsteigen wo man möchte und wie lang man da bleiben will. Wenn man bereit ist weiterzufahren, geht man auf die homepage und bucht den nächsten Bus. Buchen heißt in dem Fall nur Datum und Ort an die Zentrale schicken, damit sie einem einen Platz zuweisen können, denn gezahlt hat man den Buspass ja bereits. Im Großen und Ganzen fährt der Bus alle einzigartigen und beliebtesten (Must-Do’s) Punkte an. Bleibt man die ganze Zeit in dem Bus, mit dem man aus Auckland losgefahren ist, dann benötigt man 24 Tage für die komplette Route. Wer zwischendrin arbeiten möchte, einen Ort besonders toll findet, sodass er da länger bleiben will oder man einfach viel Zeit hat und noch zusätzlich andere Plätze ansehen will, die nicht vom Stray Bus angefahren werden, kann aussteigen wenn er möchte.
Während der Fahrt von einem Punkt zum anderen sind viele Dinge geplant, manchmal kann man über den Busfahrer eine Kanu-Tour buchen oder einen  Skydive machen, wenn das im nächsten Zielort angeboten wird. Außerdem bucht man normalerweise über den Busfahrer das Hostel, da der Bus immer im selbe Hostel in der jeweiligen Stadt übernachtet. Das bedeutet, dass man sich nur noch um Essen und Unterhaltung kümmern muss, da durch den Stray Bus immer ein Platz im nächsten Hostel angeboten wird.
Zusätzlich ist man immer mit Gleichgesinnten, also meist andere Backpacker aus aller Welt über längere Zeit unterwegs, wodurch sich bei mir zB schon ein paar Freundschaften entwickelt haben. Die Abende in den Hostels werden meist mit den Leuten aus dem Bus verbracht, um engere Kontakte zu knüpfen, jedoch kann man natürlich auch andere neue Leute kennen lernen, weil niemand an den Bus gebunden ist.
Alles in Allem ist der Stray Bus meiner Meinung nach eine der besten Möglichkeiten in Neuseeland zu reisen, da Auto zwar unabhängiger, aber auch teurer und unsicherer ist wegen häufigen Schäden, unzuverlässigen Verkäufern etc. Außerdem ist er die bessere Variante als KiwiExperience, was eine parallele Busgesellschaft ist, weil dieser Bus weniger einzigartige Orte anfährt und auf Party getrimmt ist, er besitzt auch das Image „Party-Bus“. Wer nicht 800 Euro für eine Reise durch ganz Neuseeland ausgeben möchte, ohne sich danach noch um das Weiterkommen kümmern zu müssen, der kann sich auch sogenannte Flexipässe oder Bus-Stunden für den Intercity Bus (vergleichbar mit unserem Flixbus) kaufen. Jenachdem wie lang die gebuchte Strecke dann ist, wird das von den Stunden abgezogen.

A bus always takes the whole route and every second day a new bus enters the road. As long as you stay on the route you can take or leave the next bus. If you like a spot very much just get off the bus and stay for as long as you like. If you’re ready to move on, look up when the next bus is coming to your position and get on again. You still have to tell the bus driver that you want to take his bus, so open the website, log in and book the date.

All together the most popular and interesting destinations are served.

The whole journey takes 24 days if you stay on the bus you left Auckland with. The advantage is you get to know all the cool people also staying on the bus, you sleep in hostels together, have cooking and party nights with them and experience the beautiful and fun things New Zealand has to offer. Also, in high season times, you are guaranteed a bed where ever the next stop is. This is also a reason why you have to „book“ a seat before entering the bus, so the driver always knows, how many beds have to be reserved.

In my opinion, Stray Bus is one of the best ways to travel in New Zealand, as a car is more independent, but also more expensive and unsafe due to frequent damage, unreliable vendors, etc.

KiwiExperience is another bus company, offering similar things, but serves less unique places and is geared towards partying, it also has the image of being a „party bus“.

Who doesn’t want to spend 800 € for a journey through New Zealand can buy flexible passes or bus „hourses“ from intercity bus. Depending on the distance or travel time, hours will be deducted from the bought pass.

Ich hoffe, das hat euch ein bisschen gezeigt, auf welche Art und Weise ich mich in NZ fortbewege (auch wenn natürlich ein paar Mal trampen auch schon dabei war) 🙂
